Bladesinger

Description

Bladesingers are elves who bravely defend their people and lands. They are elf spellcasters who master a school of sword fighting grounded in a tradition of arcane magic. In combat, a bladesinger uses a series of intricate, elegant maneuvers that fend off harm and allow the bladesinger to channel magic into devastating attacks and a cunning defense. Only elves can choose the bladesinger arcane tradition. In the world of Faerûn, elves closely guard the secrets of bladesinging.

Bladesingers embody centuries of elven history, values, and artistry. They are protectors of all things elven: sacred or mundane, large or small, grave or trivial; they humble themselves in service of these with equal seriousness. They are exceptional because they are willing to fight, defend, and die for any elven cause, be it defending a local farmer’s hens, or protecting Queen Moonflower herself.

These stalwart defenders of the elven way of life are deferred to because of their complete dedication to the elvish ways, not only because they are formidable warriors. Elves called to Bladesinging are unique in that they are fulfilled by serving the People, at risk of their lives.

During The Longest Year, Bladesingers lost none of this dedication, even if their magic waned. Because of this, to undergo a Bladesinger mentorship is a somber, solemn affair. Most often the vanguard for their People, many perished during the Year and after; some older mentors fear the old ways of Bladesinging may be lost to time, and others feel they stand at the forefront of a new era, composers of a great new song.
