Problem with New Character making

I am new to this server and have not been able to make a character, even after uploading all of the data for this server. When I reach the portrait choice, the portraits do not load and the game crashes. I have done this several times.

Hello! Please make sure you don't have any portrait packs installed.
If you're using Steam, just unsubscribe from everything in the Workshop. Everything you need on the server is downloaded for you. No mods required.
Portrait packs, and the way this 20+ year-old game loads them, can cause issues. It's a known problem with NWN and asset-heavy servers.

Thank you. I managed to make a char and get to the Welcome area, but I can not figure how to turn the screen. My last server had edge turning.

I'm fairly certain that's a game setting and not a server-side function.
