Camille could not answer the question of where she was born. The razing of her birthplace was a memory of pain for too few and hardly a footnote in the early years of Interregnum. Much closer to Camille’s heart were the few things her father did share with her, in the very brief moments the man was vulnerable. The attack on the village was by men wearing Baron’s colors. The attack on the village was merciless. The attack on the village claimed the life of her Mother, who died ensuring Camille’s life.

That early life was spent in a Tethyr defined by Interregnum. A constant walk on one road or the next, of finding a veneer of shelter only to run and start all over again. Growing up in such times presented the young girl with knowledge of burden and suffering, despite all her Father did to hide it.

Finding work here and there were the bright spots of security – but also ultimately the source of tragedy. While working as a labor for a small lumber outfit, her Father perished to a fallen tree, and Camille found herself alone. It was then recalling the knowledge of burden and suffering revealing another bright spot – those who always made efforts to care. The girl of fourteen Springs made her way to the Church of the Broken God, taking a different road – the path of Novice.

The Church of Ilmater was a constant sight in Tethyr, with wayside shrines and places of rest, shielding people like her from the horrors of a crumbling world. Now she was part of its compliment, watching others who wandered the roads in need. She dedicated herself to whatever learning and path the Church set her upon, and sought initiation into the Broken Ones, for she wanted to run no longer.

Five years in study were spent, and five years of witnessing the worst of the Interregnum on the road west of Darromar followed. Camille herself would be subjected to a particularly violent incident near the end of her years as an initiate, when she witnessed a father and daughter on the road nearing but not quite reaching the wayside shrine when troops of Noromath from the North beset upon them.

The Initiate placed herself between the pair of refugees and a man who dropped from his horse, blade in hand. For her action, he raised and attacked her. In those moments, the pair were able to reach safety; Camille suffered a deep cut down the right side of her face. The man grabbed her, and gave her another cut across her cheek, citing her ‘brazenness’. The troops moved on, in search of others to pillage.

As the Interregnum ended, Camille took her vows and joined the Broken Ones in earnest. She spent the better part of the next two years helping where she could in the aftermath, as the world around her started to piece itself together. In 1371, she was bid to travel and learn from experience. Studying itinerary maps, she set out West, then North, and found herself in Murann.
