The First Page of the Rest

Raised in the shadow of the Sword Coast, Lander grew up navigating the bustling, unforgiving streets of Neverwinter's Trade Ward. His father, once a proud and prosperous artisan, fell into financial ruin and incurred a catastrophic debt to shadowy syndicates. The overwhelming pressure and shame drove him to take his own life, leaving Lander with nothing but his father's unpaid ledgers and a burning resolve.

With no coin to afford formal training at the Neverwinter Guard barracks, Lander learned to fight out of sheer necessity. He spent his youth observing mercenaries near the river docks and practicing tirelessly in the overgrown ruins of the Blacklake District. As a result, he wields his blade with raw, unorthodox talent. While his form lacks the polish of a trained academy knight, his strikes are precise, swift, and fueled by desperate necessity.

Lander knows firsthand that poverty breeds vulnerability, and vulnerability can be fatal. He lives his life by a strict, unyielding code of discipline to avoid making the same mistakes his father made. He has taken up the dangerous life of an adventurer to amass wealth, secure his freedom, pay off the remnants of his father's debt, and hone his swordplay until he becomes an undisputed master of his own destiny.

When Lander finally stepped off the ship onto the grand docks of Murann, the sheer scale of wealth staggered him. Gold circulates openly in the streets, gold-laden merchant ships crowd the harbors, and powerful merchant houses like the Lurraxol family and Kaptonneme family command private armies. For a man whose life was ruined by financial failure, Amn's cutthroat capitalist culture is both a warning and an intoxicating opportunity. Here, money is power, and Lander intends to take his share.
