Lhoren of Mosstone was born in 1328 DR, the first of three children and the son of a mason. Mosstone provided him with an idyllic childhood, untroubled by the usual anxieties of tyrant rulers or economic woe. As a child he found himself particularly enamored with the lives and philosophies of the local druids, once vowing (much to his father's chagrin) that he would one day join them, though this would never come to pass.

His fortunes took an abrupt turn for the worse in 1347 DR, when a green dragon emerged from the Tethir Forest, attacking the caravans that served as Mosstone's lifeblood and eventually looting the town itself. His family's cottage was destroyed in the chaos, and though the Mosstonians would normally have leapt to their aid, the dearth of caravans had left no one with resources to spare. As a result, he and his family relocated to Port Kir later that year.

A few short months later, the Ten Black Days of Eleint saw the kingdom fall into chaos. The commonfolk rose up, attacking the local nobility—an act Lhoren celebrated, deeming it justice for their cruelty. Taking up his father's hammer, he joined the mobs that stormed Kirgrove in search of the local baron, Dinos Akhmelere. Though the peasant attack was repelled, the baron's caravan vanished while attempting to flee north—news Lhoren received with no small satisfaction.

The aftermath of the Black Days proved disappointing to him. While he had expected a sort of solidarity to arise among the people, as existed in Mosstone, the kingdom descended instead into civil war, with merchants and warlords squabbling for the throne. When news came that the dragon of the Tethir Forest had been slain by a group of adventurers, the rest of his family returned to Mosstone. He opted to remain, fighting (usually in vain) against corruption in Tethyr. Though born an Eldathyn, he eventually fell in with the adventurers of Lathander's Lanterns, their belief in striving for something better ultimately converting him to worship of the Morninglord.

Over the next twenty years, he aided the Lanterns as they tried to solve Tethyr's many problems. Initially a camp follower, doing petty labor like patching, cobbling, and hauling, the group eventually taught him how to fight, and through his thirties he took a more martial role in the struggle for a new dawn.

He happily attended Queen Zaranda's coronation in Port Kir in 1367 DR, judging her a good and just queen (or at least the best option the Interregnum afforded), and returned to Mosstone soon after. Though he was pleased to see his family again, his younger brother having taken over his father's duties as a mason after his retirement, he soon came to realize that Mosstone had little need for sellswords. He signed on with the next caravan to pass through, spending the next four years oscillating between the cities along the Trade Way.

In early Eleasis, 1371 DR, he arrived in Murann with one such caravan.
