Octávio, nicknamed Tavi, was the firstborn son of Belén Orvaño, a farmwoman originally from Murann who settled down in Brost with her husband, Llorenç, though he was not the father of this child. Instead, while Llorenç was off neglecting his familial duties, Belén was seduced by an elven man, presumably from nearby Wealdath, who took off after conquering another daring but brief romance. Belén fell pregnant, and in time, Llorenç came home to see a babe in a cradle. Initially mortified by the discovery of his pointy eyes, Belén confessed what had happened, spoke of her desperation and her desperation to do right by her family. Llorenç left, returning a week later with new equipment for the farm. He quit drinking, gambling, and confessed that he, too, had stepped outside their marriage, but now they had the opportunity to recommit to life together. And so, Llorenç raised the half-elf as his own son.
Llorenç did so even as he had his first (known) son with Belén a few years later, continuing to treat both as equals. While Llorenç sought to expand the family, his wife did not again fall pregnant after the arrival of their second son, Gil. The boys, only a few years apart, grew up as close friends, carrying out chores on the farm, blaming each other for when they failed to complete these chores, and gallivanting around the immediate vicinity of the farm and Brost itself. As they grew older, their responsibilities on and around the farm grew, as did their bond with one another. Tavi had a knack for playing the lute and so went on to have his own dalliances at the local tavern, and enjoying the company of travellers passing through the Mushroom Village. In his adolescence, Llorenç taught Tavi how to hunt. They focused on putting dinner on the table, how to best set and manage traps, and trained to be proficient in using the longbow.
The success of the farm began to dwindle, and the Orvaños consequently downsized. With the diminishing numbers of White Hearts and Malarites, Octávio saw an opportunity to make for his mother’s home city of Murann, and see if he could find work there.
