Sancho – Human Male – Lawful Evil - The Amnian, Amnian
Physical Description:
Sancho stands slightly above the average Amnian male and is widely set at the shoulders. His hair is shortly cropped and sports a few grey hairs. He sports a finely trimmed and waxed moustache and dense beard. He is well muscled but has no herculean physique. His skin is a common tanned olive with a few freckles marking his arms and legs, and altogether from a distance he is not distinguishable from any other native born Amnian. Observing Sancho closer, one will notice the sun worn skin and weathered features he wears. This surrounds his common brown eyes set in dark bags and a creased brow. He has one scar that runs through the cleft on his chin, and it is only visible from certain angles through his beard. Despite his worn features, Sancho is in his late twenties.
Sancho’s Story:
First a basic summary, Sancho is a normal Amnian who holds the same inspirations and desires that many do, namely he wants wealth and to form a meaningful house. This last bit is the driving factor for Sancho; he desires meaningful connections with others to supplant his lost family. As will be later explained in depth, Sancho has become jaded and callous because of his life experiences. Although he respects law and societal norms, he sees no issue in going to extremes to ensure these two previous items are enforced and he would readily abuse them to further his own agenda. He believes in a hierarchal society and through ruthlessness one elevates themselves. He is characterized by Lawful Evil not because he enjoys the pain of others, but instead because he is a cynic of the worst kind, he believes that the world is a predatory one.
Sancho went through a grueling time in the Winter of Teeth where he was called up as a levy. His unit was compiled of hurriedly pressed into service villagers, levies like Sancho, and a few seasoned soldiers who comprised the leadership of the company. Due to the geographical region Sancho lived in, the small band was forced to march around - or through - the small teeth mountains to join up with larger mustering armies. This is where he first met Captain Sergio, who was from the same region and the son of a middling nobleman, Sergio’s duty was to lead the mustering of men to join with the larger armies assembling to the North. During the Journey northward, the band was brought through the Small Teeth mountains in a bid to save time. During the band’s passage through the mountains, they were ambushed by a large contingent of goblins and were defeated in a pitched battle. Due to Sergio’s abilities the group was able to retreat, although at great cost. During the chaotic retreat Sergio became gravely wounded while organizing the retreat. Eventually he would succumb to his wounds while many of the seasoned soldiers were killed during the fight. This left the band with effectively no leadership; the group was now aimless and under threat from the goblin army that had initially attacked it. Once supplies ran low and the survivors began in-fighting, splintering off into smaller bands. Sancho split off with several other people from his village in hopes they could return home.
During the journey home his comrades began dying off due to exposure, environmental hazards, and at one point suicide. By the time Sancho made it out of the Small Teeth he was the only survivor. On death’s door he stumbled into a small hamlet still occupied by farmers. The villagers helped nurse him back to health and from here he gathered the tools and resources needed to continue his journey back home.
Following this debacle in the mountains Sancho attempted to return home. After a short journey down the road, it was apparent there were large parties of brigands now roving the countryside unchecked. When Sancho finally returned to his home, he discovered that his family’s farm had been ransacked;all that remained was a burnt husk. He set out to the village to find much of it had been destroyed although it was still inhabited. After questioning the villagers, many of whom did not recognize him, he was told that his family had fled and afterwards someone had looted it. Sancho discovered a few graves outside the farm after he returned to look for clues and discovered they had freshly been dug up, and a few of the bodies still had their valuables on them. Although the bodies were only bones, he was able to tell some of them had been his brothers and his mother because of the items they had been buried with. He reburied the bodies, and after some time spent waiting to see if the grave robber would return, he saw a cloaked figure approaching. He ambushed the man only to discover that it had been a trusted farm hand the family employed, and that in the absence of any authority in the region he had looted the estate after his family fled. Sancho becomes consumed by rage against the injustice the farm hand had perpetuated against his family and murdered him. He was the only man Sancho had ever killed. Afterwards, Sancho searched through the looted goods at the farm hand’s home, he discovered indications that his family fled to Murann. He sets off knowing he will likely never find his family, yet hopes still to find them. However, the Sancho that leaves for Murann is not the same that left his small village before, he has killed, he has almost been killed, and he has had the sheets ripped back from life. It is a world in which others will take advantage of one another when given the chance, and the only thing that anchors civilization is authority.
